Dharma and Ethics VII - The Travails of “Modernity"

In the last six years, the Dharma and Ethics meet has emerged as a forum where important issues, problematics and texts that have shaped the Kannanda and the Indian intellectual traditions are taken up for serious theoretical scrutiny and tested for their soundness, coherence, validity and relevance.

The forum has taken up the issue of tolerance and made pundits and scholars reconstruct their views on it; we have subjected texts by Nehru and Ambedkar to evaluate their “theories” on Indian tradition and social structure; we initiated a re-examination of the domain of “politics” by taking up important figures in the Indian national movement. For the next Dharma and Ethics meet in December 2012 we propose to take up “modernity” for a closer critical assessment.
